What’s in a name?  Especially the name Mezzodi’s.

We have officially been serving the Southside of Des Moines for 10 years and we bet most of you don’t know where the name came from.

Choosing a name is a difficult endeavor as many of you know having contemplated names for children and/or pets.  It was a labor of love to get the doors open and choosing a name was no easy feat.  We wanted a name that not only reflected the Italian/American cuisine but also the neighborhood location.  After many attempts we decided to turn to the books…the Italian English Dictionary  that it is.  It was literally a page by page search and after weeks of debate we found Mezzodi on bottom of page 319.

Mezzodi (or mezzogiorno) which means Mid-day, noon; South.

It was as we happened upon this name that we decided to open for lunch and call the restaurant Mezzodi’s as a representation of the Southside of Des Moines.

We hope you have enjoyed the restaurant over the years and look forward to serving you in the years to come.

Join us for great food, wine, and drinks while enjoying the company of your many south side friends and neighbors.

Eat drink and be Mezzodi’s.
